Students were involved in a Careers Fair, which took place at New City Redbridge College. The event was aimed at Year 11 students and the main purpose of the event was to give students the opportunity to engage and speak to as many employers, training providers, and FE/HE colleges as possible to make an informative decision post-16.
The careers fair enabled students to get a hands-on, tangible experience of some of the most inspirational career options in a range of sectors and ensure a legacy provision where students can access future work visits and placements. At the event, students explored practical examples from innovative companies and researchers.
All the students had a great time, here are some student responses;
“I learnt about some new jobs which I did not know about before, I am very interested in working in the Marine Sector now as the money is very good. I enjoyed talking to West Ham football club as they have some events coming up which I am interested in.”
“Today I went to New City College. I have applied for this college and I did not realise how big and modern the college actually is. I enjoyed talking to the apprenticeship team at NCC, and I now look forward to college more.”
“It was good to speak to people from Construction, there is lots of different things in Construction which I can do, as I have a Level 2. I can even after I finish school work on a construction site in Redbridge.”
Students enjoyed their time at the college, looking at the different industries and experiencing work life and activities from the following work fields; Construction, Marine, Beauty, Sport, Automation and Mechatronics.
In addition, students in Year 11, are getting ready for their Post 16 options, so they were able to speak to college representatives about life at New City College and the subjects and apprenticeships available to them. Students are now able to make better informed choices in regards to their Post 16 pathways and what that might look like for individuals.
