KS4 students took part in an educational trip to ‘Frameless’, the UK’s largest permanent immersive art experience. Accompanied by teachers and support staff, the trip mirrored our school’s commitment to providing quality learning opportunities beyond the classroom. The immersive galleries enabled students to encounter a wide range of artists and art movements, allowing them to engage with key concepts in an innovative and memorable way.
Throughout the trip, students approached the experience with enthusiasm and focus, completing learning activities designed to strengthen their analytical and observational skills. Using their art trip packs, they recorded responses to the artworks, considered artists’ use of art elements and reflected on meaning, mood and technique. These activities supported thoughtful discussion and enabled students to make clear links between the visit and learning previously completed in lessons.
Reflecting on the trip, Mrs Pandey commented: “I was extremely impressed by how confidently some students were able to recall artist names and recognise familiar paintings we have studied in class. Seeing them completely absorbed by the atmosphere, the music, the art and the way the artworks were coming to life around them was fantastic. Students were fully immersed in the paintings and the interactive elements; it was incredibly powerful and rewarding to see.”
Students also shared very positive feedback about their experience. One student said: “I really enjoyed it. I liked taking photos and selfies and seeing all the bright colours. The paintings moved, and the best show was Van Gogh’s blossom tree because the leaves were falling on the floor. I could touch them and move them. It made me feel happy.”
Overall, the trip proved to be a highly successful learning experience that enhanced students’ understanding of Art beyond the classroom. Opportunities such as this play a vital role in supporting our students’ creative development, confidence and engagement, while providing meaningful experiences that directly contribute to their Art education and GCSE coursework regardless of their starting points.
