This week, students visited Wonderland Ceramics in Hackney for a pottery enrichment session, and for all of them it was their first time working with clay. Students were guided through the process of creating their own bowls, carefully following instructions while also adding their own creative touch. Everyone successfully produced a bowl, which they will return to paint once the clay has been fired.
Pottery proved to be both creative and challenging. Students quickly learned that working with clay requires patience, focus, and control. Rushing the process often meant starting again, while slowing down led to better results. One of the most powerful lessons from the session was understanding that once a piece is finished, it must be left alone, a reminder that sometimes the best thing to do is trust the process and let things take their time.
The session offered more than just a creative experience. It encouraged students to practise patience, listen carefully, and reflect on their actions, valuable life skills that go beyond the workshop. Overall, it was a calm, engaging, and meaningful experience that allowed students to express themselves creatively while learning an important lesson about perseverance and timing.
