Mentivation Workshops Support and Empower Pupils at RAP

During the autumn term, pupils at RAP completed a six-week workshop programme delivered by Mentivation. The programme explored a range of relevant and challenging topics, including the law, violent culture, and achieving success through education and personal talents. These sessions supported pupils in developing a clearer understanding of the challenges they face, while encouraging positive decision-making and more aspirational thinking about their futures.

Across the programme, pupils were supported to explore complex and sensitive issues in a safe and structured environment. This had a clear impact on pupil confidence and engagement. Many pupils became increasingly willing to contribute to group discussions, with those who were initially reluctant to speak beginning to share their views more openly as the sessions progressed. Pupils demonstrated greater confidence in articulating their thoughts and showed increased readiness to listen.

The impact of the workshops was also evident in pupils’ ability to reflect more thoughtfully on their own experiences, attitudes, and behaviours. This was observed through pupils engaging more openly with sensitive topics, discussing choices and consequences in greater depth, and making links between session content and their own lives. Reflection activities prompted pupils to consider how their decisions affect both their present circumstances and future opportunities.

One pupil commented: “It made me think more about the choices I make and how they affect my future.”

Importantly, the positive impact of the sessions extended beyond the workshops themselves. Staff observed improvements in pupils’ behaviour and attitudes in lessons following the programme, including increased focus, more positive engagement with learning, and a greater willingness to take responsibility for their actions. Pupils appeared more reflective in classroom settings, applying ideas discussed during the workshops to their conduct and approach to learning.

The programme also supported positive changes in how pupils interacted with one another. Over time, discussions became more respectful and balanced, with pupils demonstrating greater patience and awareness of how their words and behaviour impact others. This contributed to an inclusive and supportive atmosphere during the workshops, where pupils felt more comfortable expressing their views and engaging in meaningful dialogue.

For our cohort at RAP, this work is particularly valuable. Many of our young people face significant personal and social challenges, and the workshops provided a space for structured discussion and reflection that supported both personal development and engagement with education. The programme reinforced the importance of self-belief, constructive choices, and making effective use of their individual strengths.

As a school, we are extremely grateful for the positive impact this programme has had on our pupils.
