Rebecca Dowe is celebrating after winning the borough prize for Best Design in Redbridge at the Fourth Plinth Schools Awards 2026. 
Rebecca’s artwork, titled Koi Pond, caught the judges’ attention with its calm and thoughtful design. The piece features two koi fish swimming in opposite directions inside a painted wooden box displayed on a plinth. Through the use of contrasting yet complementary colours, Rebecca successfully conveys harmony and balance. The graceful movement of the fish creates a peaceful, almost meditative atmosphere.
Reflecting on her artwork, Rebecca said, “The koi fish represent a deep connection and a sense of freedom as they move through still, blue water. The overall effect is one of calmness and quiet emotion.”
Mrs Pandey, Rebecca’s Art Teacher, attended the awards ceremony and exhibition at City Hall in London alongside Rebecca and her family. She said, “I’m so proud of Rebecca. She’s a passionate artist who is always creating and experimenting with different media and techniques, even outside the art room. She continually challenges herself, always wanting to learn more and do more. This is just the beginning for her.”
The Fourth Plinth Schools Awards celebrate young people’s creativity and encourage them to engage with public art by sharing their ideas in innovative ways. Rebecca’s achievement is a fantastic recognition of her talent and dedication, and everyone at RAP is incredibly proud of her success.
