Careers Week 2026 Inspires RAP Students

Careers Week 2026 at Redbridge Alternative Provision took place from 9th–12th February. We were delighted to welcome professionals from Engineering, Police Services, Construction (Buildings and Estates), Business Entrepreneurship, and Music, who were eager to engage with our students and share valuable insights into their careers.

Monday began with a presentation from David Bernie of MKE Engineering. He explored the various qualification routes into engineering, the skills required, and the level of interest and commitment needed to succeed in the field. He also highlighted the wide range of engineering careers available, including roles that do not necessarily involve machinery or moving parts. Students were given the opportunity to examine a motor, with its components explained in detail, including how it works and how it can be applied on a larger scale.

On Tuesday, Cerwyn Jones and Harry Gibbins from SSC Partnerships visited to discuss their work in the refurbishment and construction of SEND schools. They provided valuable insight into the variety of roles within their company, including apprenticeship opportunities. Students asked thoughtful and relevant questions and even suggested a practical solution for capping a drain, which greatly impressed Cerwyn, who praised the student’s problem-solving skills.

Wednesday brought an exciting and engaging day with representatives from the Police Service. Students participated enthusiastically in role-play activities and discussions about the challenges officers face daily. One student who is particularly interested in becoming a police officer had the opportunity to discuss entry requirements and potential next steps. The sessions were filled with meaningful questions and conducted with a strong sense of respect and engagement.

On Thursday, we welcomed Ash Juggessur, a young business entrepreneur and celebrity chef, alongside Louie Rei, a music artist with over a billion views who has performed in stadiums worldwide as part of the group WSTRN. Louie now focuses on working with young people through outdoor ventures. Students were fascinated by their personal journeys and inspired by how they achieved success in their respective fields.

Careers Week was a tremendous success and was very well received by both students and staff. Our guest speakers offered continued support and potential future opportunities for RAP students, including business mentoring, apprenticeships, and outdoor development experiences.

The week delivered many positive messages, with students demonstrating curiosity, maturity, and relevance in their questions throughout each session. RAP is already looking forward to Careers Week 2027.
