Leon Henderson, Artist Workshop at RAP

We welcomed graffiti artist Leon Henderson for a workshop that brought energy and vibrancy into the school. Organised by Art teacher Mrs Pandey for Art GCSE students, the session gave students the opportunity not only to design and paint a colourful mural in the newly updated library, but also to work together, share ideas and build confidence in their artistic abilities.

Under Leon’s guidance, students explored spray paint as a medium, experimented with new techniques and supported one another as they developed their designs. At the end of the school day Leon stayed on to paint a second mural in the school entrance, incorporating RAP’s core values into a bold and eye-catching design.

Headteacher Mr Jonker said: “At our school, we are committed to creating a learning environment that is inspiring, high-quality and engaging for every pupil. We believe that when students walk into a space that looks good, feels cared for and reflects their identity, their sense of belonging and pride increases, and with that comes improved focus, motivation and achievement. The new graffiti artwork in our entrance and library is a deliberate part of that vision. Graffiti is a powerful, youth-driven Art form that brings energy, excitement and authenticity into the school. By incorporating bold colours, positive messages and creative imagery, we are making school feel modern, relevant and “cool” to the young people we serve. The artwork celebrates reading, wellbeing, respect and resilience, helping to create spaces where pupils want to be and want to learn. Ultimately, these improvements provide both pupils and staff with a school they can be proud of and one that truly supports success.
